Jaunty and fearless, Yong (Lee Jun Ki) roams the market street by day and robs corrupt government officials by night, but his intentions are anything but malicious as he distributes the stolen goods to the poor struggling commoners. People call him "Iljimae", the faceless elusive hero who leaves a unique signature (a branch of a plum blossom tree) behind at every robbery scene. He's the most wanted man in the country, but that's not the only trouble he's facing. His storybook romance with government official's daughter Eun Chae (Han Hyo Joo) is soon discovered by the Imperial Guard who has held deep affection for Eun Chae for some time. And standing in his shadows is Bong Soon (Lee Young Ah), a jolly feisty swindler who would trade her life for his at any given minute.
